A lot of homeowners are tired of maintaining a strip of grass that drinks water, needs weekly mowing, and still manages to look rough half the time. That was the situation here - a front lawn area that just wasn't worth the upkeep anymore. The homeowner wanted something cleaner and easier to manage, so that's exactly what we set out to build.
We started by stripping out the existing grass and prepping the ground from scratch. Full removal, not just a surface-level fix. Once the area was cleared and leveled, we installed black aluminum edging to create a clean, defined border between the rock bed and the remaining lawn. That edge is what makes the whole thing look intentional - it's a small detail that does a lot of heavy lifting.
From there, we filled the bed with Arizona river rock. It's a smart choice for this kind of space. It holds up well in the heat, doesn't wash away, and it just looks sharp. We also set in concrete steppers spaced through the rock to give the space some structure and a clear path to the front door.
What the homeowner ends up with is a front yard that takes a fraction of the water and almost no weekly maintenance. No mowing that strip, no fighting the sprinklers to keep it green. The aluminum edging keeps everything contained so the rock stays put and the lawn edge stays defined.
This is a good example of what a landscape renovation can actually do for a property. It's not just about looks - it's about cutting down the work and cost that comes with high-maintenance grass in areas where it just doesn't need to be.
